Zahree Thomas

In 2010 Chevonne Thomas lost custody of her son Zahree after admitting to police that she smoked marijuana laced with the hallucinogenic drug PCP, blacked out and left Zahree alone in a car. She was charged with child endangerment. Yet, five months later she regained custody. In her case all standard procedures for placing Zahree back in her care were carried out, including substance abuse, mental health and parenting skill evaluations.

A Neighbor reported seeing Thomas and her boyfriend sitting on the steps of their home, this was familiar sight. But on that night, Thomas was topless and "clearly upset." About two hours later, Thomas called 911. During the call, she first accused her boyfriend of stabbing Zahree, but then quickly recanted. "You know what, I did it, I'm lying, I'm lying, I'm lying, I did it," she said. When police arrived, Thomas was still on the phone with emergency operators. Not knowing if she was armed or if anyone else was still in the home, police retreated and formed a perimeter. By the time police broke a window on the second floor and entered the home, Thomas was found dead what a stab wound to her neck. Police found the headless body two year old Zahree Thomas on the first floor of the home. His head was in the freezer. Autopsy results released show that Zahree was alive prior to being decapitated, and his mother, who took his innocent life, died from a self-inflicted knife wound to the neck.
