Police responded to a call reporting a missing child. Shelby Dasher told officers she overslept and when she woke up her thirteen month old son Tyler was missing. Police said they found no signs of a break. Investigators on the scene recognized "rather quickly, thanks to their experience in cases of child abuse, this wasn't a missing or abducted child. Dasher repeatedly said she didn’t know how her child could’ve disappeared. “I swear on everything I love, I did not hurt my child!”

 

Dasher Dasher eventually admitted sge killed her son out of frustration that he kept crying. She said she struck Tyler repeatedly when he wouldn't stop crying or lie down, then hid his body in a wooded area and returned home and reported him missing. Tyler’s body was found near St. Marcus cemetery about a mile from the Dasher home. The medical examiner reported the cause of Tyler's death was multiple blunt force trauma to the head. The medical examiner found no signs of past abuse.

 

Dasher was charged with second degree murder. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Charges were also filed against Dasher's boyfriend Edgar Rivas. He was charged with abandonment of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. Rivas was accused of disposing of Tyler's corpse and not notifying police of his death. He's also accused of hiding plastic gloves and pieces of duct tape used during the crime. He was sentenced to three years.
