DJ Yates beat and tortured his 20 month old son, Quinton before murdering him.  Yates walked into the bedroom where his girlfriend, Jessica Schumacher, Quinton’s mother, was sleeping.  He woke her up to tell her he had just killed their son. Jessica immediately called 911, but it was too late. Quinton was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Quinton was covered with abrasions, red and blue bruises and burns, and died from what court documents are calling “mortal wounds”.  The injuries were all over his little body, with the worst being on his face, head, cheeks, neck, chest, abdomen, back and hands.  Quinton also suffered from a broken rib and busted lip.  The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head. 

 

This was not Yates first offence in 2007 Quinton’s father was arrested for plotting to kill a teenager and pled guilty to a lesser charge of conspiracy to commit a felony. He was given a five year deferred sentence.  A few years later he violated his probation his sentence was changed to a ten year suspended sentence. Yates pled no contest to the first-degree murder of his son and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
