Joshua Piercefield was babysitting his girlfriend’s three month old infant daughter Oliva when he got frustrated with her and started to shake her violently. Shaking Olivia wasn't enough for Joshua so he decided that he would purposely drop Olivia on her head. Joshua noticed that something was wrong with Oliva but didn't call for help. Instead, Joshua put Olivia to bed and left her there alone. The next day was Mother's Day he noticed that Olivia was still limp and unresponsive, still he didn't get her any medical help and he went on with his plans for a Mother's Day trip with his girlfriend Jessica and Olivia.

 

Olivia was finally taken to University Of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital where it was determined that she had severe brain trauma and was admitted to the hospital and died a few days later. Joshua was charged with murder as well as second degree child abuse. In May of 2012, Piercefield, entered a plea of guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 18 to 27 years in prison.
