On January 7, 2011 Robert Valentine had left his daughter Mikayla in the care of his girlfriend Kara and received a call later in the da saying Mikayla was unresponsive and in route to the Clarion Hospital. The staff at the hospital had been great when treating Mikayla, but that they didn't have the kind of technology needed to deal with the brain trauma that she had suffered. Mikayla was life flighted to the University Of Iowa Hospital, the next day Mikayla died. Kara told the police that Mikayla Valentine had fallen down the stairs which was the cause of her injuries that would result in her death. An autopsy determined the cause of Mikayla ‘s death to be abusive head trauma

 

Kara Crasper was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in prison, after pleading guilty in a plea deal, to second degree murder. In June of 2012, charges were filed against Robert Valentine Jr., for child endangerment resulting in the death as well as child endangerment resulting in serious injury.
