Ebony Espree Berry hated her 16 year old mentally disabled daughter. There was no explanation to why she hated her own flesh and blood. In June of 2013 Markea Blakely-Berry died of starvation. Markea was extremely malnourished and weighed a mere 43 pounds at the time of her death.

 

Child protection agencies in two states investigated reports of abuse repeatedly, without taking any action. In 2010, Markea ran away and was later found at a nearby Walmart where sge was caught stealing food. She told investigators she often went there to sleep overnight because she felt she was burden to her mother. The case was closed two months after leaving Markea’s situation to become worse. Berry would lock Markea in her bedroom at night with 'pee pads' to prevent her from leaving and to stop other visitors from seeing her.

 

In June 2013 Berry, did call 911 after first reaching out to her dad when she found teen and couldn’t revive her. Larry Stewart received a phone call from his daughter saying that her daughter was unresponsive, "I got her off the phone. I said, You dial 911. Don't call me. Call me back and let me know what's going on with the child" said Larry Stewart

When Police arrived Markea was already dead.

Ebony was sentenced to 30 years in prison and then after her release she would be on ten years of probation, will have to go to therapy for mental evaluations and she will not be able to have contact with any children.
