Madilyne Christine Wentz

In April, Rachel was working in Altus for Long View Communications. While she was there, she searched through a list of Oklahoma State LICENSED day care providers to take care of her 11 month old daughter Madilyne while she worked. The daycare provider she chose had Madilyne for only four days before Madilyne was murder.

On the day of was found not guilty by a jury of six men and six women  death, Rachel immediately went to the home of the daycare provider and found an ambulance with Madilyne inside unconscious. When they arrived at the hospital in Altus, she was told Madilyne would be flown to Tulsa because she was not breathing and needed to be further examined by a children's specialist. When Rachel and family arrived at the hospital we were told her injuries were much more serious than expected. The daycare provider Melinda Bautista shook Madilyne so hard that both side of her tiny brain had suffered massive strokes. Within 24 hours of arriving at the hospital Madilyne would die from these brain injuries.

Melinda Bautista was charged with first degree murder. During that confession, Melinda said:  "I shook Madilyne until she went blue in the face, gasped and went quiet"  An affidavit filed in District Court said the daycare provider (who was an Oklahoma State licensed day care provider), shook the infant "until she lost consciousness" due to the fact that the child was "irritable and crying". She posted a $100,000 bond which was lowered from $500,000 and appeared for preliminary hearing August 18th, 2005. The Tulsa County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death a homicide due to shaken baby syndrome.

Melinda went to trial and was found not guilty by a jury of six men and six women. What the HELL did they not hear her confession?  My heart goes out to Madilyne’s parents Judge Stephen Jones gave your daughter NO justice and makes it seems like a child’s life is meaningless. He makes me SICK. I pray Melinda has no contact with any other children that she can harm.
