Koralynn Marie Fister

Koralynn's parents David Fister and Becky Heupel lived together for about three years, but separated around the time Koralynn turned two. After the breakup up, her parents had a verbal agreement that Fister would take Koralynn every Wednesday and Thursday. Then one day Heupel just stopped answering Fister texts. Heupel said Koralynn was sick. Then in mid April, Fister went to the home they had once shared and demanded to have his daughter. At first, Heupel refused, but she gave in and Fister took their daughter to his aunt and uncle's home to stay the night. That was the last time Fister saw his only child Koralynn alive.

Koralynn’s mother and older sister had left for a couple hours leaving Koralynn in the care of Heupel's new boyfriend James Reeder.  Police were called when he found Koralynn Fister face down in the bathtub after he stepped out to grab a towel. He had carried the unclothed child to a front porch across the street and asked neighbors for help. Koralynn was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. Investigators discovered that Reeder had repeatedly raped Koralynn and hurt her so badly that patches of skin were missing from her body and her toes. Koralynn died from drowning and blunt head trauma.

When police interviewed Becky Heupel she confirmed that she wanted a relationship with Reeder and ignored warnings from others about the relationship, as well as signs she saw herself, such as controlling behavior and signs of abuse to the child. Becky Heupel was sentenced to a year in prison for failing to protect Koralynn. Heupel was charged with second degree criminal mistreatment. James Reeder who was sentenced to 37 years in prison. Reeder was also charged with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of first-degree child rape and possession of methamphetamine.
