Another innocent child dies at the hands of their mother’s boyfriend. On February 18, 2011 at approximately 10:00 am, the Abilene Police Department responded to a call for an injured child. Two year old Hayden was transported to Hendrick Medical Center and then taken by helicopter to Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth. Hayden suffered from injuries consistent with abusive head trauma. Hayden was pronounced dead by doctors at Cook Children’s Hospital at 2:30 pm on February 19, 2011. Ramey was the only adult present at the time Hayden was injured.

Ramey told police that Hayden fell off the bed. But as the investigation continued, evidence of abuse surfaced. Ramey eventually admitted to police that he had shaken and slapped Hayden in the head and face before throwing him onto a bed. Hayden’s father and great-grandmother reported Hayden had been punched in the head so hard his retina detached and the imprint of a fist could be seen on his skull.

A look into Ramey's past shows that he's had multiple convictions and was on parole. Among his convictions, Ramey was found guilty of unlawfully carrying a weapon and burglary of a habitation. Ramey was also found guilty of assault causing bodily injury. Franklin Ramey Jr. was given 30 years in prison as a part of a deal to plead guilty to a lesser injury to a child charge.
