Harmony Jade Creech

In the summer of 2007, Johni Heuser called police saying her infant child, Harmony had vanished. Johni told authorities that she had last seen her daughter the night before at about 11:00 p.m. in her crib. Harmony's bedroom window screen had been popped out and the window was open and much off her clothing was found to be missing. An Amber Alert was issued immediately in an effort to find Harmony.

Not long after, deputies discovered Harmony’s body in Heuser's attic wrapped in a plastic bag stuffed inside an empty diaper box. The medical examiner announced that Harmony's body was so decomposed, a cause of death was unable to be determined, but a second expert found that neglect and chronic starvation contributed to the baby's death.

Heuser initially claimed she had found Harmony dead in her crib several weeks earlier and that she had concealed the death out of fear. For about 18 months after Harmony’s death the Sheriff's Office retained custody of her body because her body was considered to be a crucial part of the evidence against Johni. Prosecutors had originally decided to seek the death penalty against Johni. In December of 2010 Johni Heuser plead guilty to first degree murder and received a sentence of 11 to 14 years.
