John Pacheco was arrested by Littleton police Seventeen days before Gerard died. Pacheco was charged with abusing Gerard's brother Donaciano Ornelas after a neighbor complained he punched the little boy in the stomach. Police notified the Arapahoe County Human Services Department, but the agency did not assign a caseworker. Why the mother of these let this monster back in the home blows my mind.

 

On June 23, 2001 Gerard died after bleeding internally and vomiting repeatedly for a day from a blow to the abdomen. The county then discovered other reports concerning both boys, including a skull fracture on Gerard that had been deemed accidental. Police reports show, however, that Gerard's brother said Pacheco hit him every day, and his sister said Pacheco once tried to suffocate her. Pacheco is serving a 96 year prison sentence for Gerard's death.
