Commited to the end of child abuse. . .
Evangelina Wing
On December 20th around 5 a.m. a 911 caller reported that a child was not breathing, when emergency responders arrived to Dorothy Wing’s home, they found her two year old daughter Evangelina in full rigor mortis with bruises and injuries all over her body. Evangelina, was found lying on her side on a bed in her mother and Roden’s room but with livor mortis on her back, inconsistent with how she was found. It appeared Evangelina hadn’t recently been bathed, there was discoloring around her neck, a lesion on top of her head, blood in her ear lobe and bruises on her ear. There were fingernail scratches near her mouth. Her left arm was bruised from her shoulder to her wrist and was wrapped in an ace bandage, and a doctor noticed the humerus in her left arm was deformed. There were bruises on both hands, adult sized bite marks on every finger, and she was missing a fingernail on the ring finger of her right hand. There were bruises on both legs in multiple places. An autopsy determined Evangelina Wing, died due to blunt force trauma.
Wing told police Evangelina got hurt from falling off the toilet a few days before. But her two older brothers had similar injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. One of them told police his mom and her boyfriend often kept the kids chained up like dogs inside the apartment.
Randy Roden was arrested and charged with sex abuse, unlawful sexual penetration, assault and criminal mistreatment. An indictment said that Randy had been abusing Evangelina since at least October 31, 2014 and had hurt the two boys in the home who were ages five and two. Randy had a criminal past including a domestic violence case in the year 2012 that involved two women with charges of sex abuse, strangulation, kidnapping and unlawful sexual penetration. Randy plead no contest to coercion and he went to prison and served only ten months before he was released Randy violated his probation when he changed where he was living and moved in with Dorothy, he did not have permission from the Department Of Corrections to move. Court is scheduled on February 26, 2015.
Dorothy was arrested on December 31, 2014 and indicted on eight charges that included murder by abuse, first degree murder by manslaughter and six counts of criminal mistreatment. Prosecutors say that she left her children with Randy knowing that he was a violent man who had been abusing them. Court is scheduled on February 24, 2015.
Randy and Dorothy both plead not guilty.
Update:
Randy Roden violated his probation by possessing marijuana, oxycodone and methadone and failing to report that he moved in with Dorothy Ann Wing. The drugs were discovered during a search warrant of Roden and Wing’s Seaside residence after Evangelina’s death. In addition to the probation violation, Judge Paula Brownhill ruled that Roden and Wing will remain in custody without the possibility of bail. The decision does not impact Roden, who was sentenced to serve prison time for more than eight years no matter the result of the murder charges. A trial date remains set for April 5, 2016.
