Eric Forbes was a normal child who got good grades and played football. On October 11, 2013 Eric’s father called 911 on the recordings, Forbes can be heard claiming his son had drowned in the bathtub. "He's not breathing," Forbes said on the recording.  "I thought he was in the tub, but when I went in to see him, he was a little bit underwater.  His head was bobbing." A 911 operator asked him how long he had been in the tub. "It couldn't have been that long," Forbes said. "I just checked on him.  I came back in there, he was just there.  I thought he might have been asleep or something." Authorities responded to the reported drowning. Eric was found unconscious inside his home and showed multiple signs of physical abuse. Eric had bite marks, cuts, and bruises all over his body. Eric was taken to Paulding Wellstar Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Eric's father, Shayaa Forbes was arrested and charged with felony child cruelty. 

 

 Forbes punished his son both on the day before as well as day of his death Forbes admitted that during the altercation the day before his son death that he hit him with a belt and a paddle. This punishment lasted about minutes.  Then on the day of Eric's death, he admitted that he also bit him and spanked him. The night of his death, Eric had swollen legs with bruises and contusions down to his ankles, bruised feet, his big toe nails were broken in half, his arms and upper chest had bite marks and his eyes were swollen and bruised.

 

Eric’s mother Ashley Majorssaid that Shayaa had a history of violence."I was abused for five years," she said. "The reason I left, but I didn't think he would do this to his own child, flesh and blood."
