Emily Marie Meno
Developmentally disabled twins Emily and Tiffany Meno were placed in the foster home of Joy Heaven after allegations that their mother, Lori Meno could not properly care for the girls. Child Protective Services' became involved with the girls' welfare in August 2009 and agents in February wrote that "chronic neglect exists which threaten the welfare of the children." Assessment of Lori began after Tiffany fell out of a window and the mother, at some point, reportedly locked the children in a bedroom while she slept. Then in December Meno failed to tell anyone about a gas leak in her home for fear she would get into trouble.
On July 15th, .around 8 p.m. Heaven became frustrated with Emily for wetting her pants so Heaven pushed Emily hard enough for Emily‘s feet to go through the air, and for her to land on her head in the kitchen. Emily was unconscious for a few seconds, but woke up. Instead of calling for help Heaven she sent Emily to bed. After 10 p.m., Emily woke up and vomited, then passed out. Heaven, looked up “concussion” on the Internet to see what she should do. That's when she called 911. Paramedics arrived Heaven’s home for a child who would not wake up. Heaven told paramedics that she believed that Emily had suffered an epileptic seizure. She was placed on life support for two days. July 17th life support was removed and Emily gained her wings. Emily’s death is the second tragedy to the family in two years. Emily’s ten year old half-sister April Kirtley, was killed in August 2008 when a car operated by her father, Todd Kirtley, was struck by a drunken driver.
Heaven pleaded no contest to second degree murder and will spend 25 to 50 years in prison.
