On February 12th one year old Conrad Ayala was found unresponsive after a hang up 911 call. He had been badly beaten and was transported to Trinity Hospital. Conrad’s mother, Cassondra Ayala, and her boyfriend, Anthony Robinson had performed CPR but when he reached the emergency room, his body temperature was only 91 degrees. He was placed on life support but, after about 30 hours Conrad’s injuries proved to be too much, doctors pronounced him dead at 1:42 a.m.

 

Conrad had a broken jaw and was covered from head to foot with bruises. The medical examiner ruled his death to be homicide as the result of blunt head injury in battered child syndrome. Ayala was remorseful, and admitted to striking Conrad with her hands and a belt, playing a role in in her son’s death. However, she implied that Robinson had perhaps played a larger role. Ayala and Robinson were arrested and charged with felony counts of child abuse. Ayala plea to guilty in exchange for a 22 year jail sentence. Robinson pleaded guilty in exchange for a 27 year sentence.
