Caylee Marie Anthony

In the summer of 2008 Caylee Anthony disappeared, only to be discovered six months later a short distance from her home. Her skeletal remains were stuffed in plastic bags and her mouth sealed with duct tape. Her mother, Casey Anthony, was charged with the horrific crime after not reporting her daughter missing for a month, and lying to police..

For Cindy and George Anthony and their entire family, that moment came suddenly in the summer of 2008, when their precious two year old granddaughter, Caylee, who lived with them, disappeared. Their lives have been a horrendous nightmare ever since. “What we've been through in a year has been hell," George Said. "It's changed us dramatically in our faith, in our belief in God. “It was bad enough that Caylee had disappeared. But what's made it even more devastating for the Anthony’s is that their daughter, Casey, has been charged with murdering her. “Casey would not hurt Caylee," said George. "She wouldn't do that. Casey Anthony had become a suspect because she had lied repeatedly to detectives and waited a month before reporting that her daughter was missing.'

The autopsy for Caylee could not determine the cause of death, but revealed that her head had been wrapped in duct tape from her chin to her nose. Pink, glittery cloth letters that may have spelled out "Big" and "Trouble" were found near the skeletal remains, the autopsy report said. The autopsy found no evidence of trauma on Caylee's tiny skeleton and no traces of drugs in her system.

The following is a timeline of the events surrounding Caylee's disappearance and the investigation of her mother:

June 16, 2008 Caylee seen for the last time. The little girl's grandfather George Casey later tells police that he saw Caylee as she was leaving the house on June 16. It is the last time Caylee is reported to have been seen alive.

June 30, 2008: Casey Anthony's car towed. The family car Casey Anthony had been using was found abandoned in front of an Orlando, Fla., cash advance business and towed away. When the towing company called Casey's parents, Cindy and George Anthony, they became concerned. Casey reportedly had told her mother that she was going on a "mini-vacation" to Jacksonville, Fla. Cindy Anthony later discovered that her daughter had been staying with a boyfriend.

July 15, 2008: Caylee Anthony reported missing. Cindy Anthony called 911 and said, "I found out my granddaughter has been taken, she has been missing for a month." Casey Anthony allegedly told her family and police that she had not seen her daughter for 31 days and had launched her own investigation. In one of three calls placed to 911, Cindy Anthony said, "I found my daughter's car today and it smelled like there's been a dead body in the damn car." Cindy Anthony later retracted that statement, and the Anthony family rallied around Casey.
