Caleb's mother Lindsey Blansett was offered help, but refused to accept any help offered to her from the State. These services were intended to help her. On May 1, 2014, the Department Of Children And Families was notified that a child was being neglected, but sadly no one check out the allegation until the next day and Caleb was not at school that day. A Social Worker did go to the home later that day and was told that Caleb was in Wichita. However, no one confirmed that was true. Five days before Blansett killed her son the Kansas Department for Children and Families received a report of non-abuse neglect with regard to the family.

Than on December 14, 2014 Lindsey Blansett called 911 to report that she had stabbed her ten year old son.  When police arrived, they found Caleb dead, he sustained a puncture wound to the chest. In an apparent attempt to explain the stabbing, Blansett said during the recorded call: “I thought I was saving him from the pain that was coming After Caleb went to bed, Blansett decided his life would be full of suffering and pain and that it would be better for him to go to heaven that night. She took a knife and rock into his bedroom, struck him with the rock and stabbed him with the knife multiple times until he was dead.

Lindsey was charged with first degree murder and stands accused of having used a rock and knife to kill Caleb. The charge carries mandatory life without parole for 25 years sentence. In January of 2015 Blansett, was granted a mental competency evaluation by Judge Scott McQuin after Mike Brown made a request to have the evaluation done. Mike Brown was requesting that his client receive this evaluation to determine if Lindsey was of sound mind enough to stand trial and understand what was taking place legally. A hearing date was set for January 29, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. and at that time a review of the evaluation would take place.
