Brenlee Gilbert was born on March 5, 2013 and was pronounced dead on May 20, 2013. She had brain injuries which resulted in her losing her little life.

 

Alex Gilbert was left alone with Brenlee by her mother Stephanie Hinklin for two hours. Brenlee was sleeping when she got home and slept through the night. Not waking as she usually for a feeding. The next day she wouldn't drink very much formula either and was left alone with Gilbert again. When Stephanie came back, Gilbert called the baby 'moody' and said he could 'throw her up against the wall'.

 

On May 17, the baby started gasping for air and an ambulance was called to the home. Police found baby Brenlee unresponsive and turning blue. She was rushed to St Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs before being transferred to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, where she was placed on life support. She was pronounced dead just three days later.

 

An autopsy showed that Brenlee had suffered numerous broken bones, including a fractured skull, contusions and brain damage. The detective who spoke to the mother in the hospital noted that she had two black eyes and a bruise on her forehead. A Lafayette County judge sentenced Alex A. Gilbert to 15 years in state prison for the abuse and death of his ten week old daughter.

 

 Brenlee's grandmother Robin wrote me on 10/5/15

"Thank you, this means alot to me . Her 2 older siblings are 6, a sister and 4, a brother, Brenlee is also a big sister too with a new little sister that just turned one. When they are old enough to read and figure this all out, I at least want them to have the truth. Thank you so much, and what you are doing for my granddaughter and the other little angels is keeping them alive !!!!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!!.
