Ashanti Afflo

In February 2001, Bailey pleaded guilty to aggravated battery for pulling on her one year old son's legs so hard she broke them a witness said "She did it because he was crying,".  Bailey was sentenced to 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Bailey had also been investigated for neglect in 1999, abuse in 2000, and neglect in 2001. Bailey was paroled June 29, 2001, and DCFS had an active case file on her until Jan. 30, 2003. About two months before that, on Dec. 2, 2002, Bailey had given birth to Ashanti.

Lynette Bailey called police to her home reporting that her child Ashanti Affalo was not breathing. Ashanti was rushed to University Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. Bailey told police Ashanti had fallen out of bed, but a witness told police that Bailey slammed Ashanti head on the ground and then struck her at least five times because she was crying. Ashanti died of multiple injuries. Bailey was charged with first degree murder.

Lynette Bailey was supposed to love and care for her children, instead she hurt them for crying. Newsflash kids cry, hurting them will not help to situation. Why did the state not take Ashanti from her mother at birth? Maybe she would have at least had a chance.
